Because - genetics - plays a pivotal role in Color Inheritance as well as breeding for Abilities, a lot of first time breeders as well as the general public underestimate the importance of good Parent Chocobo Cards.
Many people believe if they find any two
Chocobo Cards of the same color, their
Chocobo will automatically be this color.

Breeding is just one of several mechanics for obtaining a Chocobo Egg.  However, it is the best choice for those who want to engineer their Chocobo to a specific color, to bear a specific ability or to even acquire a certain accelerated base stat.

It's by far the most efficient means of acquiring a certain type of Chocobo from the start, as well
as a Chocobo with somewhat higher base stats. However, it's also the most time consuming method when it comes to careful planning and finding Chocobo Cards, and also the most expensive.

For first time breeders who don't mind what color their Chocobo will be and want to learn the ropes, or those in general who don't want to put the energy and time into a specific kind of Chocobo, there are other easier, less costly options for acquiring a Chocobo Egg.

purchasing Chocobo Cards for your Chick.
It's wise to do some research beforehand and find out how Genetics play a part in Breeding, and to have an idea if you want to try and inherit any Ability right off the bat.
Take your time reading this site, and also visit other sites like Wiki and get to know what lies ahead of you.

Ask an experienced Breeder on your server for their advice if needed. And purchase cards from experienced Breeders or those who have a good idea about the Chocobo Process and who know the genetic history of their Chocobo as well as their Stats and Abilities. A lot of Card sellers don't know much about Chocobo raising or even remember what cards they used to breed.  It's not hard to pick out those on the server who have an understanding about Chocobos and who keep track of what cards they bred.

Just ask questions before buying cards.
The higher generation the card is, and the more uniform in color its genetic history is, the higher a chance your Chick will be your desired color.
And if you are interested in Abilities, be sure to ask what abilities both cards have.

If you are having a hard time finding experienced breeders, your next option is just to find bazaars with multiple cards up for sale.  Usually that means the owner has at least more than basic experience with Chocobos.
