CRA (Chocobo Racing Association)
Chocobo Races via the CRA (Chocobo Racing Association)
racetrack is a way to show off your Chocobo's Speed and Stamina. A few
opt to Race via the less-frequented/less-preferred
Chocobo Circuit Method.
Racing is one of the major reasons why
Breeders
raise Physical Chocobos.
Via the
CRA NPC,
one can test their Chocobos Attributes and Abilities, along with special
Racing Items to see how their Chocobo fairs against NPC Super-Rider Chocobos like Pulonono's star-steed.

Farming Race Items / Rewards:
Official Races:
The whole goal of Official Races is to either win Regional or
International Ranks for glory
and a title, or to win exclusive special items, otherwise not
attainable. Small side-gifts of gil and Chocobucks are handed out
as rewards as well.
Non-Official Races / Free Races:
The goal of Non-Official Races is to farm VCS Chocobucks (Chocobo
Currency) which later
can be exchanged for nice prizes which aid in breeding (like Carrots, Greens,
Pastes, medicines, Tornado Salad, Chocolixirs etc.
Special advanced Raising tools can be purchased as well, such as Chocobo
Dye and Advanced Attribute program tickets which can be applied
to one of the Chocobos Attributes. There are also Advanced
Attribute program tickets which can be applied to retired Chocobos,
but require more Chocobucks to purchase than the normal ones.
See right column for more information on Attribute Program tickets.
For Chocobo Raisers with not that much gil on them, I recommend Racing
their Steeds and purchasing either Vomp or Zeghams with their Chocobucks.
Carrots cost at the moment 7-8k per stack and are only attainable
through gardening. Via Chocobo Races, these carrots can be
exchanged for only 10 Chocobo Bucks.
This can cut down substantially on food costs.
There is a limit of 1000 Chocobucks that can be stored at any given
time.
Chocobuck Slips can also be won from
The Hot and Cold Game. They can be used like regular Chocobucks
to purchase items and food for your Chocobo, or applied towards Official
Runs and Re-runs.
Before purchasing items with Chocobucks, you have to ensure you are
registered with a particular CRA branch. In fact, even before you
are able to race your Steed, you need to make sure you print off a
Racing Card from your VCS Caretaker and then trade it to the CRA
representative near the Stables.
Advanced Attribute
program tickets
special Attribute program tickets purchasable with Chocobucks.
Many raisers use these tickets once 2 of their Attributes have reached
First Class, and they want to raise up a 3rd Attribute without
negatively affecting one of their Maxed Attributes.
Note: This method is very time consuming, and can also be
costly.
Also, it can only be used on Adult Chocobo's
still residing being taken care of at the stables.
Cost: One whole attribute upgrade can be accomplished
with 7 of the same Attribute Tickets. This costs 560 Chocobucks
total..
Buffer Cap: As I explained in the Development
section, there is a Buffer allowed on First-Class Attributes. The
Buffer caps right below an imaginary following Attribute level.
When a stat is completely capped, you will receive a message stating
that further upgrades may injure the Chocobo, and you will not be
allowed to upgrade this Attribute.
Upgrade Limit: There is a limit on the total number of upgrades
you can apply to a Chocobo. If you have two stats capped, you must move
on to a third Attribute to advance. Any further upgrades to any stat
will lower
other stats.
Official / Non-Official Race Regulations:
Time Restriction:
Official Races can only be done once per
Vandiel day. This prevents your steed from overstraining itself
via Racing and/or advancing too fast through races.
Official Race Fees:
The majority of the Official Races cost Chocobucks (minus the first
few).
The further the Racing Program progresses,
the higher the Chocobucks entry fee becomes. Upon winning the
race, a portion of the Chocobucks is refunded as Reward.
Non-Official / Free Races:
Unlimited times per day allowed.
Initial entry fee per day costs 100 gil.
Each subsequent race costs slightly more, with a maximum Race fee of
1000 gil, which may be repeated indefinitely.
Keep in mind, your Chocobo will tire and will no longer perform up to
par.
Fees reset to 100 gil upon Vandiel day change.

Attributes plays a
key-role in Races:
Strength:
Directly Affects the Power and Speed of your Chocobo. Top-Speed is
dependant on Strength, and Strength also partially affects a Chocobo's
Stamina.
Endurance: Directly Affects the Stamina of your
Chocobo. Endurance and Stamina are basically synonymous. After a certain
amount of Racing time, your Chocobo's Stamina will begin to decrease and
will continue to decrease from thereon. Endurance also plays a
small role in Top Speed.
(Note: Strength and Endurance obviously
have the biggest impact in Chocobo Racing.)
Discernment:
[Racing Aids] Deals foremost with the Accuracy of
successfully landing and hitting your opponant while throwing Racing
Aids at them.
Accuracy of Racing Aids being thrown at your Chocobo will also be
affected depending on your Discernment.
Receptivity: [Racing Aids] High Receptivity
adds an increased chance that Racing Aids, when thrown, will hit
opponents.
It should also, therefore, logically Increase
a Chocobo's Evasion as well while having Racing Aid being thrown at it.
(Note: Discernment and Receptivity work in conjunction with one
another in successfully landing Racing Aids and/or avoiding Racing Aids)
Equipping Racing Aids:
During Offician and Unofficial Races, Chocobos may be equipped with
1 extra Racing aid at a time.
Apples, Bombs, Biscuits and Saddles are all types of Items that may be
equipped to help give your Chocobo an extra edge in Races.
Tip: Chocoshop's personal Favorite is equipping a Speed
Apple to temporarily boost a Chocobo's Strength (Running Speed).
It's cheap and easy to make, even for
beginner cooks. see:
Cooking.

which contains various Racing Aids as well as a general list of popular
Chocobo Foods.
